I had this strategy of gathering a team solely based on type advantage against all of the bosses. Back then, I didn't care about nature, IV, EV's, abilities, or items. Anything that could've been wrong with my pokés, were most definitely wrong. Maybe that says more about their trainer... Nahh, unpossible. *rolls eyes*. All I had going for me at that stage was blissful ignorance and whatever I retained from watching the anime during my childhood. Goooood times. Then one day I had a 200 IQ moment to look up bosses on Youtube to streamline through them with less time & work intuitive. That's when I stumbled across the OG @Carlho and his vast playlist of how to defeat bosses. [/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] [TABLE] [TR] [TH]Carlho[/TH] [/TR] [TR] [TD] Carlho guides were truly the cream of the crop. They were to the point, zero footage that included any mistakes that would've cost time or had the player redoing something as they played along to the vid, and most certainly- no video intro that lasted one minute long of their username in flashing neon lights. Enough shots fired...anyway, moving on. Between Help chat & All chat, I should see a lot of hustle & bustle about abilities, nature, IV's, etc, but I never fully grasped the concept as to how to apply them. That's where Carlho's videos came in and thought me the fundamentals through his boss guides. My whole world got rocked by learning new combinations of pokes & movesets and how a team could work together to "sweep". I started earning bank, had a ton of boss pokés in my collection and things were coming down to a finely tuned routine. Has time went along, new bosses got introduced and Carlho had embarked on a new journey producing other gaming content. Which leads us to our next evolution in bossing; @PurpleMauth. [/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] [TABLE] [TR] [TH]Purplemauth[/TH] [/TR] [TR] [TD] Purplemauth's guide was thee go-to-guide on the forums. At any given time in Help/All chat, if the question involved the context of bosses the answer would be "see Purplemauth's guide on the forums". The guide was simple and most notably it used less pokés to defeat the bosses. From this guide I took a shine to using entry hazards and the infamous Seaking with Lightning Rod ability and Azumarill with Sap Sipper ability. Those were the days mahn, if the boss had a poké that used an electric or grass move... GAME, SET, & CAH-CHING!!! There were other methods to bossing in the guide, but the amount of cheesing Seaking & Azumarill could do was next level degenerate. Until... all of that got fixed with bosses being updated and guides had to evolve again. [/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] [TABLE] [TR] [TH]Tanks[/TH] [/TR] [TR] [TD] Meet the big 5: Snorlax, Slowbro, Clefable, Chansey/Blissey, and Tyranitar. There's not a single veteran player reading this that has not used at least one of these pokes for bossing. Since there was no go-to-guide during the boss updating phase, most players branched out into using different tanks depending on the boss. There wasn't much to it, set up and sweep using all of my bossing experience I had racked up at that point. But then, everyone started hitting this wall (no pun intended) this wall called Critical Hits. It sparked quite a bit of eyebrows to be raised, but we were reassured everything was checked multiple times and all was in working order. But critical hits kept coming and I kept REEeeeeeeeeeee'ing 'cause of the time being put into setting up "x6 this" and "x6 that" was just tedious and a total waste of time if your tank got critical hit. That's when I left bossing and took a break to rethink my approach. [/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] [TABLE] [TR] [TH]Baton Passers[/TH] [/TR] [TR] [TD] And then it hit me... literally. All I needed to do was to hit first and that would barr any critical hits on my sweeper. After doing my research and deciding on a new sweeper, everything else was reversed engineered for Conkeldurr to get to the set up point and then knock everyone TF out. That's how my baton passers fell into place followed by debuffers, utility, etc. As much as this guide tries to cut as many corners as possible to reduce time, we still want to secure the win by techin' nature, EV's, & items. And that's primarily the reason why the guide is split into two halves: Defence Setup & Special Defence Setup, to tank as hard as possible during the baton pass phase, but most importantly barring critical hits after juicing up. No. All pokes listed in the guide are mandatory for the guide to stay consistent. Is the listed pokémon abilities really needed? Yes. The stated ablilities is the reason why these pokés were choosen over others that could have done the same, but lacked a better ability. My poké has a secondary nature, is that fine? Yes, as long as it is listed. Can I just use the impish Gliscor [or careful Gliscor] to do all of the bosses instead of having a second Gliscor? No. When we are setting up during the baton pass phase, we want to tank as hard as possible while utilizing the full potential of the Gliscor's ability, nature, IV, & EV's. Is it better to buy or hunt the pokés that are listed? Aside from sweepers (since I value them to be the pivot point between losing & winning) you don't need epics to vs bosses. Rips with key stats are abundant & cheap. As the saying goes; One man's beer is another man's corona. ...or was it one man's tras...??? Anyway point being, rips are cheap to score. Can I use Mew has my baton passer with this guide? No. Can I use Electrode has my debuffer instead of Ampharos? It is a debuffer but using it will be at your own liability. Can I use a Mold Breaker Haxorus/Excadrill has my sweeper with this guide? Those are sweepers too, but again, it's at your own liability. When using sashed debuffers, some matches feel like it's cutting it to close for not debuffing fully. Can I bring a second debuffer? Yes, you may. What does ☛ mean in the strategy table? Its an indicator as to which pokémon the set up will take place on. As stated in the header of the strategy table too. Cheesing with Chansey means to utilize Toxic and then use a combination of Seismic Toss, Protect, & Softboiled to deal damage while keeping your HP full. Opponent's poké didn't OHKO Gengar and Curse Body triggered, what do I do? Curse & spam Sludge Wave till they faint. Afterwards, faint out Gengar on the opponent's next poké by spamming Protect. Just triple checking everything on my end by deafeting bosses before posting that info to everyone. So there's zero error or micro-adjustments needed later.
