No, you don't need it, after talking to the Aqua Grunt you need to go back and go on the left side of Vulcan Forest, the Magma grunts are this way :p (You'll see a NPC trainer named Dio and Zero) English isn't my first language so excuse me if my message is weird or incorrect :D
