I'm in Kanto, and I wanted to know where I can get a Machop, I want one on my team to start with

I wanted to know if when I choose a region, will it mean that I can only catch those Pokemon, like if I catch Alola I will only be able to catch Alola Pokemon etc, what changes with my choice?
