[Vulcan Island Challenger Rick quest bug]

For the challenger rick quest i had been hunting chimchars for an hour or so, had caught 2 and when to him to submit them but when submitting the second one the npc told me that the 2nd chimchar had been caught before the quest was started and wouldnt give me any summer points
