I was searching the forum if anyone had thought up this idea :Light: but hadn't found anything on it (plz post link if there is already such a thread). I was thinking of the P1 Grand Prix, pretty much the Pokemon Boxing match in Indigo League. Wouldn't it be cool to have a Fighting Type Pokemon Only style tournament for an event? I think that would be so awesome! What do you guys think?
There is only a few things that come to mind in addressing this idea that could make or break the idea though:
1.) Fighting Pokemon - would this include half-fighting pokemon or just pure fighting pokemons? For example, Hitmonchan is a Pure fighting pokemon while Medicham is primarily Fighting type but also Psychic. This extends to even pokemon where fighting is their secondary rather than their primary such as Poliwrath (who's fist look like boxing gloves just like Hitmonchan).
2.) If we bring in half-types, would they be allowed to use their other half abilities or only Fighting type abilities? And this goes both ways. If Half-Fighting pokemon can use their non-fighting abilities, would it give Fighting pokemon a disadvantage? Likewise would removing the ability to use the other half abilities make for a disadvantage for Half-Fighting pokemon?
3.) We're not even done yet... Brock submitted his Geodude in the Grand Prix even though its not even Half-Fighting. Its a Rock/Ground type. And even the TCG noticed this to include Rock and Ground Type pokemon. Could it extend to envelop these pokemon? Fighting vs Fighting pokemon could be a matter of who just has the strongest attack and the fastest speed to get their turn in first (as it should be I suppose, but this could be repetitive and boring). Which helps us lean toward bringing in half-types and Rock and Ground types into the arena.
4.) How many pokemon can you enter? Just one? Or can you submit multiple? I suppose if we base it off the anime, looked like you could only submit one and use it throughout the entire competition. Free heals in between or must you use items? And speaking of, can pokemon equip items for the Grand Prix or must they not use any items during the match?
5.) This last one is reserved for the difficulty in putting this together and this is probably the most important one of all. How hard would it be to implement such a tournament with varied amounts of restrictions? Pokemon type restrictions, item restrictions, ability restrictions, limited 1 pokemon (or more) restrictions.... Do you have to go to an NPC that will check your pokemon for various qualifications, etc.? This is where I'm not sure if this will break the idea completely.
All that I've mentioned is subject to your opinions. If you think its a great idea, then hurray! If you'd like to add or critique the idea, be my guest. If you think its an absolutely terrible idea, you can tear into. If its just not feasible, you can shred it. If this has been mentioned before somewhere, plz link me to it (I couldn't find anything on it myself). Thanks for reading, I know its a long read but I appreciate any thoughts on it.
