i have the same problem,

 

i talked to him once, selected the "more information" answer and then the "may be later" one... and i realise he wasn't here anymore (his 4 pokemons are still here and i can't move on his spot).

 

i was on my phone when it happened and can't see him on PC either.

edit : resync or reconnecting does not change anything.
