on the first ever battle with Giovanni in Rocket's hideout his 2nd pokemon in battle is onix. Whenever i oneshot it with my Roselia using Megadrain it deals some kind of random damage

That’s a visual bug. It looks like that when using draining moves, and sometimes leftovers.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

 

As @ztaziz stated, it is a simply a visual bug whenever a pokemon uses a draining move.

Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid it, but it shouldn't affect any battles that take place for you.
