Description and Message

I'm not actually sure if this is is a bug, if it's meant to happen or if it's just me but when I faced Team Rocket for the first time in the cave none of the Pokémon I used to beat them gained any exp at all. I just dismissed this and carried on however when I just beat Giovani for the fist time in the secret base under the Games Corner none of my Pokémon gained any exp then either, which was really disconcerting as I would've expected each of them to level up a dozen times as it was a hard battle.

 

Is this meant to happen with big bosses or am I expiriencing some kind of bug because I want to make sure it doesn't happen again to avoid having to put more work into training my Pokémon so they are on the same level they would have been if they had just got it from beating the boss in the first place!
