Nostalgia at it's finest xD Recently in the 3DS games, I started to go for stats since better stats can somewhat change the game. There are a few items that increase the power of certain moves, such as magnet for electric moves and black glasses for dark. If you're referring to ev's there is a macho brace attainable in Johto. Other than that there are not many I'm aware of that would change the stats its self. Possibly things like choice scarf which is in the game. Many items you may be used to for competitive battles are not in the game yet though.
