The only unlogical thing i saw with criticals was this:

My bronzor against enemy rhydon.

I use Iron defense once, rhydon hits me with drill run for 1/4 or 1/3 of my hp.

Then i use two more iron defenses (3 in total). I Heal my pokemon to full hp.

Rhydon hits me with drill run with critical, and my bronzor dies one hit.

Well. do the calculations. thats not possible.

I dont try to change the problem or the subject, i want to point out that maybe critical hits have some misscalculation sometimes.

Bit off-topic since this is specifically about the burn effect's interaction with critical hits but ok.

 

If you use Iron Defense once it should effectively double your defenses against drill run. If it dealt 1/3 of your Bronzor's hp after the first iron defense that would mean it would deal 2/3 before.

As seen from the posts so far in this topic or on bulbapedia you can see that stat stages will be ignored on critical hits (which is what Iron Defense gives). So if it would have dealt 2/3 before any boosts and then crits. It would deal 50% more damage and ignore your boosts resulting in 3/3 of your hp (the damage is slightly varying due to the damage formula but you get the point).

 

In that case it seems reasonable that your bronzor could die.

It wasnt meant to go offtopic, i got your point, ye that sound logical, so that must be it. I just thought maybe critical hits was in general bugged sometimes, but seems thats not the deal
