No matter how well I follow the Pansage, the top Golbat always catches me in the final section of the challenge on Dragonspiral Tower 4F right before I reach the other monkeys. I am riding the Arcanine mount, and my understanding is that all mounts are the same speed. It seems like I cannot follow the Pansage closely enough due to how much of a lead it gets before I am able to run after it.

 

Am I doing something wrong or does this last section just need to be frame perfect?

as you say, all (Land)Mounts have the same speed.
This part of the quest is generally considered as a hard. It will not be easy. In case you are doing it on your phone or with an bad internet connection, it makes things even harder.

 

I can only suggest you to try it more.
The Golbat has a set of ways it can go - but those ways are always the same. I personally tried to remember those ways and was hoping that at some point the Golbat is taking the way I blindly take. Maybe that helps you a bit.
