How does the Thief skill work to get items? I have the TM96 Thief, but 
I don't know how to use it

Hey! 

All you need is a Pokemon that is capable of learning (Thief). Once you enter a wild battle just use move (Thief). Keep in mind that not every Pokemon have an item.

it steals the opponents held item, if youre trying to get a wild pokemon held item there is a big chance that the pokemon doesnt have it, so you have to kill like 10 to get their item

Please make sure that when you are trying to Thief an item from a Pokémon that your Pokémon is not holding an item. Your Pokémon must not have a held item to be able to steal an item.
