I was battling Misty and the client froze. I waited and the client wouldn't respond. I closed the client and tried to reopen the game (not caring whether it would put me during or before the gym battle), and I was unable to connect to the client What have you already tried to solve the problem? I tried Red Server. Worked fine. Tested on different internet connection. Redownloaded the client. Cleared saved data and re-entered.
