I remember checking to make sure it was in my backpack before making the trek to johto, but it seems to have dissapeared. I've double checked all of my PC and Party pokes and it just seems to be gone. I don't believe I released a pokemon with it equipped.

 

Would it be possible to get another one?

If there is no Exp. Share Item on your Pokemon, or in your backpack, you are free to claim one.

As you can see, it is possible to get it in every region. But remember, only one per player maximum!
