I used to copy strong teams from top players. They worked, but I didn’t feel like I was improving much. I was just following what was already built.

Then I started generating random teams and playing with whatever I got.

At first, it felt awkward. Strange type overlaps. Pokémon I never normally pick. No perfect synergy. But it forced me to think more carefully about matchups, switching, and basic team balance.

Instead of chasing perfect builds, I focused on simple questions:

  • Do I have type coverage?

  • Do I have something fast?

  • Do I have something bulky?

  • Can I switch safely?

Random teams pushed me to adapt instead of relying on comfort picks.

I’m curious about others here.

Have random teams helped you improve?
Do you keep the full team as generated, or do you adjust one or two slots?

I’d like to hear how different players approach this.
