I am new to this game, and I lose to a npc on the street today, after that I can't duel with him anymore. Does it mean I could never duel with him anymore? If not when can i duel again

You can rebattle all npcs (except gym leaders) one week later. It does not matter if you won or lost.

non-story npc(s) have 1 week of cool down for re-battle no matter win or lost to you. But their level will not change.
