I think it has to do with doing the Team Magma quest being able hunt Torchic, glitching into Team Aqua quest at some point, getting double rewards from Team Magma boss and the Mayor.

So Challenger Rick is probably programmed to see Torchics from me, showing him the Mudkip i caught at Mt. Summer exterior gives this Error:

Have you disconnected between the moment you caught it and the moment you showed it to him? 'cause I had the same (was Aqua allied, still am), disconnected, logged back in and worked like a charm ; it just works like the Daily Task in Celadon, it's just that the text seems a bit more buggy x)

Yeah well, that works.

Still, I got the rewards double from Team Magma Boss and the mayor.
