Volt Switch/U-Turn, Not how its meant to be..

So when i began using volt-switch i felt like something was wrong, I've played competitive both in the Nintendo games and showdown ladder and it felt like it was missing momentum, I went onto showdown to test out if the move was the same as PRO. Which turns out it is not.

Below I will discuss and explain why there is a huge disadvantage on the way PRO's volt switch mechanics are and the huge advantage on how its meant to be.

Firstly, the images below will demonstrate how Volt-Switch as well as U-turn works on PRO

Step 1: Click on the move.

Step 2: Pick the pokemon to switch into

Step 3: Battle Animations commence

Now these images below show how Volt-Switch as well as U-turn are meant to work.

Step 1: Click on the move

Step 2: Battle Animations commence

Step 3: Pick the pokemon to switch into

Now it may seem like it doesn't matter, but in fact its a major disadvantage to have the battle animation go last.

For instance:

1. If you are slower than your foe, you get to see and take the damage from the move by your foe before you switch.

ie. lets take a look below.

Foe:

uses flamethrower...

You:

lives with sturdy, then you get to switch, since you now know its a specially invested dnite, you can wall it off with blissey making the switch option for blissey to become valid.

If you never got to see the attack/or type of the attack before you picked your pokemon for a switch then you could have possibly went into something that could

potentially lose you the game. Normally physical dnites carry EQ/X speed/DDance/outrage as a set, however if you saw that a fire punched was used then the option of revenge killing with your bullet punch scizor would become a factor and you would be self aware that you could possibly die to a fire punch.

2. Okay the second big advantage that you lose with U-Switch in PRO is on a double switch ie.

If the match up was:

10 hp Jolteon picks volt switch against sturdy Skarmory to break sturdy and go into special houndoom.

10 hp Jolteon Vs Skarmory switches to Lanturn

10 hp Jolteon uses volt switch against Lanturn spedef+ with volt absorb

Jolteon is forced to go into houndoom because it was picked pre-battle animation.

So in this scenario, you were afraid of losing jolteon who is your fastest pokemon to a skarm who potentially might have an attacking move. Since you wanted to save your jolteon for later you used volt switch.

lanturn takes the volt switch, but you are still able to switch, but since you already chose houndoom you are at a big disadvantage

because volt-switch only allows you to select the pokemon before battle.

Information is an essential contribution to winning a battle.

That is the comparision of U-switches between the Nintendo pokemon games + showdown with PRO.

I would appreciate it if it was fixed.

Shane (the developer) is aware of the problem.

It's an old post but i personally reported this among other stuff here:

https://pokemonrevolution.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=14436&p=92717&hilit=u+turn#p92717

I can't really find the topic but another player reported it later again as well and IIRC he got told that PRO's system didn't allow it to be changed or something. I remember it as bad news at least.

I agree with the change. However, PRO has it's own battle system which is completely custom written, that has nothing to do with Nintendo(it tries to mimic showdown or the actual Pokemon game, but it is indeed completely custom). The battle system now is "turn based", and in order to make the change for what you are proposing, the developers will need to COMPLETELY rework the battle system, which is like almost half of the game. It's a good catch, but there are a lot more works(coding new moves, fixing other easier to fix bugged moves, adding new pokemon, new area, new content, etc.) the developers are working on or intend to work on before this, so I doubt it will be changed any time soon, if at all.
