You wont receive any xp nor cash, if you have been beaten by him days ago. Not just him but all npc in the overworld.

If you haven't lost to him and receive the cash but no xp then im pretty sure its a bug or smh :y:

I don't know about the XP if it really was your first time challenging him, but you did get the money.

 

At the start of the video, you have 9 900$, and 11 306$ at the end; it just adds it at the end of the battle and not at the exact moment of the dialogue about it (and that will be like that for every battle, either trainers or wild pokés)
