(Dragonite) Patisaur's Pokemon of the Week

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I will be doing these guides because alot of people that PVP normally don't share their strats with others and alot

of people are clueless on how to build their pokes especially for first timers. It may be difficult to find guides on this because

Smogon and Serebii is alot different to PRO, the fact that you cannnot get perfect IVS and Hidden Powers & the exclusion of Megas,

Certain items and pokemon that aren't in the game make it that more different. If you found what a posted informational or helpful please post some nice feedback and ill be happy to do more.

Dragonite

Standard Set

dragonite.png

Nature: adamant

Item: Lum Berry

Ability: Multiscale

Efforts: 252ATK 4DEF 252SPE

Moveset:

Dragon Dance

Outrage/Dragon Claw/Roost

Extremespeed

Earthquake/Fire Punch

The standard set for dragonite, you will need atleast 30 or 31

ivs in speed and with one DDance 259 speed reaches 388,

outspeeding jolly talonflame 386 and Weavile 383 and Timid

Starmie 361 and Gengar 350 respectively. The reason why

jollynite is unecessary is because 284 speed with DDance would

put Dnite to 426 Speed, when the fastest threat on PRO is a

timid jolteon with 394 speed, Crobat and Aerodactyl have also

394 speed but they arent as big of a threat on PRO pvp,

Electrode and Ninjask have higher speeds as well but you will

never see them in PVP due to rocks and their usuability.

Long story short you are sacrificing 46 attack stat to outspeed

a Jolteon which isn't as common on PRO because of its

difficulty to obtain it with HP ice. Even then at full HP Dnite

can take a life orbed HP ice from Jolteon thanks to its scale and

take it out with an EQ.

Dragonite is the best xspeed users currently on PRO,

outclassing both arcanine and lucario in both stats and

movepool. Reason why xspeed is so important is that it is

higher priority than Aqua Jet/Galewings, Even if Azumarill gets

off a Belly Drum or a Talonflame manages to SD then you still

will be able to revenge kill it with Extremespeed. Lum Berry is

the counter for T-wave/Sleep/Will-o-Wisp-Scald Burn, which

makes your Dnite completely useless if that ever happens.

Earthquake and Fire Punch are your steel coverage, and DClaw is

an option if you are afraid of getting fairy locked by

Togekiss/Azumarill.

Mixed Set/Anti-Rain

dragonite.png

Nature: Rash/Mild

Item: Life Orb/Leftovers

Ability: Multiscale

Efforts: 252HP 4DEF 252SPA

Moveset:

Ice Beam

Thunder/Thunderbolt

Hurricane

Extremespeed

Mixed sets can catch anyone by suprise and suprise factors can

win you a PVP. This set is made to counter rain or be used on a

rain team, reason why Aqua tail isnt here is because Storm

Drain Gastrodon can shut down half of the moves of this set.

with Multiscale and HP investment Dnite can take any unboosted

hit even from most ice attacks without dying, Life orb is for

the extra damage or leftovers is a good option to regaining

your scale. Ice Beam is for those x4 weak meta pokes, gliscor,

garchomp's and other Dnites, Mence and Flygons if they ever see

daylight on PRO. Hurricane is meant to counter Ludicolo, it can

take an Ice Beam and dish back a STAB 100% Accuracy Hurricane

to finish him off. Thunder is to get rid of Politoed to stop

any further rain set up from happening, you can also use Tbolt

as an option because its less risky running two 70% accuracy

moves on the chance there is no rain. Extreme speed is there to

hit those Talonflames like always, with 100 less attack stat

than the standard set you might struggle to kill anything above

50% HP but it is still useful to revenge kill anything thats on

20% HP or less. With this set Blissey is a real enemy to you so

make sure you dont waste time using any moves on it and just

switch out.

Special Support Set

dragonite.png

Nature: Modest

Item: Leftovers

Ability: Multiscale

Efforts: 252HP 4DEF 252SPA

Moveset:

Flamethrower/Fire Blast

Thunderbolt/Thunder Wave

Roost

Draco Meteor/Ice Beam

Another set to deal with Ferrothorn's this time. Pretty much

self-explanatory, roost is to get your scale back, Tbolt for

water pokes and coverage ie. slowbros, Togekiss, Politoeds,

Vaporeons, Azumarills. Draco Meteor for that 130 stab, you also

have the option to run Ice Beam if you want to stay in and dont

want that -2 SPA drop. Hurricane if you are afraid of

Ludicolos.

Nice post.. I always wanna do sth like this if Im not lazy af or not busy talk sarcasm to ppl.

Anyway, for ur standard set, u dont need to outspd jolly talon since its either u xtreme spd or they atk 1st w. their prio flying type.(ye they definitely wont use flare blitz on u) but ofc max ev in spd and the higher iv in spd the better becuz of other dnite.

for ur mixed set. I think u should add Superpower as an option. I think it is important since it can 1HKO ttar- a weather disrupter to rain team and deal around 70 75% to blissey-another threat to rain(may 1hit if u got orb and they take prio damage like rock, spikes). Also draco meteor is an option since its the strongest atk u got, incase u wanna break other walls outside of the rain. u may wanna replace it w. Thunder in that case. And remember if u use orb for better damage w.o roost u lost ur scale after ur 1st atk. So i think normal dnite is aceptable w. this set (which is easier to obtain and dont cost u a treasure)

And i dont see pure special dnite often.. but ye its an option.

I think its Ice Beam that should be replaced. I know that BoltBeam is famous for its coverage. however in this case.. think about it. what threat u want to cover w. Beam? u either fled vs Chomp. or go in a spd duel w. other nite. and Hurricane in rain can 2hit gliscor even w. poison heal. those are x4 weakness to Ice.

against thing x2.. u better use hurricane since it is at 180 after STAB while I.Beam is also 180 after super effective damage. yeah. if u I.B a Hippo it deal the same dmg as Hurricane.

Extremespeed

Thunder

Hurricane

Superpower

I live by this moveset on my Mild h/a Dragonite. I guess running a rain team I'm not short on ice moves so it's a nice switch. Does a lot of damage to Blissey, Ferrothorn, Tyranitar with superpower and can take out pretty much Slowbro, tanky Venusaur, Tangrowth with thunder and hurricane easily. By far the best type of Dragonite in my opinion but depends on type of team you run.
