Nearly Perfect Gyarados?

Featured Replies

So I have been magikarp farming for nearly 3 hrs only to find a modest magikarp with near perfect IVs. The most important stat, ATK has a -10 due to modest nature and IV of only 13.... but all the other IVs are above 29. I am tired of magikarp hunting and am ready to settle down with my special attacking gyarados. Is this an awful idea? What moves should I go with? I was thinking ice beam, flamethrower, surf-STAB, and thunderbolt.

You can use whatever you want. As far as special attackers go, Gyarados sucks. Gyarados is a much better physical attacker.

Also, no offence, 3 hours to farm for something is nothing. I'm currently at 8 hours at Kalijodo lake and I still haven't even seen a Froakie...

I respect your dedication. However, I am not committed enough for long periods of farming. Three hours is more than enough time for me. I know it's not an ideal gyarados, but is it viable for battling elite four and any other story line mission? I'm well aware that it will never be competitive in pvp.

To put things in perspective for you -

Your Gyarados has 60 base Special Attack.

An Oddish has base 75 Special Attack.

If you raised an oddish to the same level, It would hit 25% harder than that Gyarados.

You decide.

Just because Gyarados has low base stat on sptk doesn't really mean it is not viable to be sptker on pvp. But just Atker is the most/best recommendation.

Creativity, Tactic, Experience, Crazy most people who has that could run an Sptk Gyarados. No idea how but I was once deadlocked/checkmated by an Sptk Gyarados. We should sometimes refrain from limiting Magikarp's immeasurable power.
