i have been fighting mankey to get the unknown hat (about 3 hours of mankey killing)

and not one of them were holding the unknown hat.

Can you tell me on what route you spent 3 hours of Mankey killing?

As this guide says, you are supposed to find the wild mankey on route 9

 

If you were on another route fighting Mankeys, please try route 9. If this is not the case, let me know.
