They do recall their Pokemon mid battle in the anime, actually. This is a Pokemon game. Just like Game Freak's games, we have the same mechanic for switching Pokemon. Furthermore, in the Pokemon anime, Pokemon are seen dodging any move with a "Pikachu, move out of the way" command from its trainer. I don't think this would be fair in a competitive game. Nevertheless, this won't happen. We'll be sticking to how every Pokemon game has handled the recall mechanic.
