In Pokemon: HeartGold/Soul Silver, the Pokeathlon was another event that added depth and playing time to the game. I myself enjoyed this part of my Johto playthrough, and thought it might be fun to suggest to see what others think.
[spoiler=In depth...]
Pokeathlon
In Pokemon: Heart Gold/Soul Silver, the trainer could participate in an event called the Pokeathlon. A Pokeathlon is a type of competition involving Pokémon racing and similar athletic competitions, in the manner of Olympic track and field competitions.
These competitions would be held in the Pokeathlon Dome, which is located North of Goldenrod City, next to the National Park.
Pokemon and Performance Stats
Then choosing to participate in a Pokeathlon, the player would choose three Pokemon from their team. Each of these Pokemon have a specific stat assigned to them that is influenced by their species and nature.
As an example, a Charizard’s set amount of Stamina Stat is 5 stars, but it’s base stat is 4 stars. A player can raise(or lower) this stat by feeding it Apricorn juice. Certain kinds of Apricorn juice raise certain stats. (Apricorn juice can be made with a blender or purchased at the Dome.)
Nature can also influence a Pokemon’s performance stats.
Pokeathlon Events
I found a chart online explaining which Pokeathlon Events use which Performance Stat.
Winning Events
Bulbapedia states, “By winning events in the Pokéathlon, the participating Pokémon will earn medals for their species. Their Trainers earn points for the competition based on how well the team did and if they qualified for any of the several bonuses. The Trainer with the highest score wins, with a tie settled with a random draw by the Pokéathlon host. A win will earn the Trainer an additional 100 points (300 points in the Supreme Cup or 500 points in Link Pokéathlon), which can be spent on prizes at the Athlete Shop or Data Cards with which the player may see records of various actions, course wins and losses, and multiple other statistics in the Pokéathlon Dome. Beating the records for all 10 of the events in the Pokéathlon earns a Trainer star in HeartGold and SoulSilver.”
Some of these rules would be difficult to achieve in PRO. I thought I’d suggest changes as help when considering the Pokeathlon.
Prizes
The Official Pokemon Wikis show prizes available to the player after earning a certain amount of points from the Pokeathlon.
Here are the current prizes:
Prizes can of course be changed according the the PRO team’s discretion.
PROs and CONs
This sheet as a whole is a WIP, but I’ve tried to lay out all the initial/important information first so that it would make sense should someone read this.
