found pineco on route 36 aswell -
sync pokemon (natu timid/adamant/jolly/modest) doesnt work in safari area of johto. after catching a bunch of pokemon, only 2 pokemon turned out to be synced. please test more and fix if it is so. i have no tested in kanto safari area. i have tested it in grass, fish and surf. all results are similar.
