I wouldn't generalize the entire community based on this individual experience. There are many people willing to help to at least a certain extent. I'm sorry you encountered a bad experience. I still am pretty new to Pokemon even with tons of play time. I never get out side of the casual level generally. People are still generally willing to help me.
