I'll start by saying my pokemon that know the moves both have happiness over 150. I'm not sure if there are any other requirements to use the moves on dirt patches or trees other than happiness. I had used headbutt on trees before and it worked fine but it doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. If there is something obvious that I am missing just take it easy on me.
