Smashing rocks for the shards to unlock the excavation cooldown isn't 20 hours. 20 hours is for the rocks INSIDE the excavations. By the rocks i mean the smashable ones surrounding the areas that you have to break to get shards to show to fossil expert charles or whatever to unlock.

Can I smash the rocks, relog, smash them again, and keep going until I get the shards?

This is for the excavation quest. On almost every youtube guide i have seen the player gets the shard from the rock on their first try. I have been to every site and smashed the rocks repeatedly and only gotten shards from one. Is it just a case of bad rng or something wrong on my end?
