I just started this game about two days ago and it seems that lvling up and earning money takes an absurd amount of time. I suggest making it a bit easier to lvl up in early areas as to not discourage newcomers an cause them to leave out of frustration.

I'm really sorry about this frustrating experience. I understand that this game requires a lot of grinding, but there are ways to make it easier. One of the most important tips is to wait to evolve your Pokemon. The exp required to level an evolved Pokemon is significantly higher compared to a Pokemon that has not been evolved yet. This will make leveling substantially easier. Another way to gain more exp when leveling is to challenge trainers again. They reset every 7 days.

 

Earning money becomes much easier after beating the third gym. After obtaining the Thunder Badge, you will be able to use the move, dig, outside of battle. This will allow you to take advantage of dig spots. Dig spots reset every three days, and they give various poke balls, healing items, etc. They also contain valuables that can be sold to the Item Maniac. This is a very useful method for regularly earning money.

 

As you progress in the game, you will have access to more ways for making money. This guide lists many of them. You may also want to consider getting membership. Benefits include a 50% exp increase and 100% increase to the money-yield rate.
