Celadon City bridge map optimization

In cerulean city route 24 when you go up and there's that bridge with something like 5 trainers and a team rocket member that leads to bills house.

 

I wonder why it isn't like in fire red where you could just walk in a straight line and it's like in pokemon yellow where you have to zig zag them so many times.

I had to do that bridge so many freaking times between PokeCenter<->battling<->bills house so many cicles

Well, the bridge is only two tiles wide. Can't expect it to be much wider.
