I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I would like to inform you that Red on Mt. Silver is useful only to unlock the Trainer Valley and you can do that either by winning or losing against him as the result of the battle really doesn't matter.

 

However, do note that to access the Trainer Valley you need to meet other requirements that are the following:

Quoting our HOW TO ACCESS SPECIFIC MAPS:

• Fight with Red at the top of Mt. Silver (doesn't matter whether you win or lose)
  
• Catch 120 Pokémons native from Kanto (from range #1-#151)
  
• Get 38 evolved data
  
• Be able to take the train
  
• Subway & Train Quest Guide
