You mentioned the symbols on the map info tab. The small pokeball means you have the owned data for the specific pokemon in your pokedex already and the little yellow symbol next to the Horsea in the image above means that the pokemon has a chance of being found holding an item. The white question mark means that you have not seen that pokemon yet and that it can be found on this map, the pink question mark means that you have not seen the pokemon yet and that it can be found on this map if you have a membership active. If there are anymore symbols that you've seen and are unsure of please let me know with a screenshot of the symbol and I will do my best to let you know what it is.
