Guest Lepren
Hello I'm Lepren, I have been reading through the topics and, I just thought I might throw another idea out there for you guys. I know you are probably busy getting a second server ready, and I understand the inherent want to keep things centralized, but I was thinking maybe you guys could could make it easier (later on) by releasing a simplified server code that people can change to fit the needs of smaller groups. I think that if you did this, then your fan-base would largely increase. At the same time you could charge for the files and could link them to individual accounts if you wanted to make money, but I would really appreciate it if we didn't see any elements of the current MMOs on the market. Just straight Multiplayer Pokemon. (Please don't allow a micro-transaction takeover) If you are thinking about a business model, I think you could probably (and I know how terrible this sounds) emulate the Minecraft plan. You could charge a base fee for account creation after the beta and then give out the client and server files for free (except maybe for modified servers, you could probably charge for different pre-made ones). OR You could save my faith in the game industry by keeping this as a free and open-source game that is made simply to enjoy the world of Pokemon as we all wanted to. (If you did this I would personally donate, and I'm sure many others would as well) Link to comment https://pokemonrevolution.net/forum/topic/16305-release-a-modifiable-server-code-for-public-use/ Share on other sites
Chappy
Well, seems I popped up into another suggestion. Let's see Lepren said: 115659 releasing a simplified server code that people can change to fit the needs of smaller groups What we worked here for until now? To make the largest and best Pokemon MMO out there, not scrapping it around into short pieces, so that each owner and admins could just hack around their own mini-game, and show around with their own Mew, Mewtwo, Mewseven teams? Denied Lepren said: 115659 then your fan-base would largely increase Increase how? We'll get only known as the ones who made the code, not the ones that created the game and maintained it until the end. Lepren said: 115659 I think you could probably (and I know how terrible this sounds) emulate the Minecraft plan You just explained yourself there, no need for me to reply on that one. (If you did this I would personally donate, and I'm sure many others would as well) That was our plan from the very begining, anyone who enjoys Pokemon is welcome to play our game (as long as they follow our rules). If you want to play, all you need is to have a connection to internet, something you can play PRO on and...well, that's it. Did I mention any moment about donating money? That because you don't have to do it if you want to play the game, it's your own choice to support us and receive back that marvelous Shiny Magikarp Mount  Hope my wall of text clarified our oppinion regarding what you suggested. Muffet
I'd like to add to Chappy's post by pointing out that in the actual ToS it specifically states: Permission is granted to temporarily download one copy of the materials (information or software) from PRO's websites for personal, non-commercial transitory viewing only. This is the grant of a license, not a transfer of title, and under this license you may not: Modify or copy the materials; Use the materials for any commercial purpose, or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial); Attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained on PRO's websites; Remove any copyright or other proprietary notations from the materials; or Transfer the materials to another person or "mirror" the materials on any other server. This license shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions and may be terminated by PRO at any time. Upon terminating your viewing of these materials or upon the termination of this license, you must destroy any downloaded materials in your possession whether in electronic or printed format. Coincidentally, this answers your entire post by specifically stating that you can't modify any of the code and such of the game, so putting this as a suggestion exerts the fact you didn't read the ToS.
