Can't enter the 8th Gym in Kanto

I'm in Kanto and hit 7th gym that said Giovanni should be back now. But in Virdian City the gym is closed. The man before said the gym is always closed.

Did you check if in your Trainer Card it shows if you have acquired the Cinnabar Gym Badge? (Volcano Badge). After acquiring this badge you should be able to challenge Viridian's Gym.

I forwarded the issue to our scripters. Could you try to enter the Viridian Gym and show a screenshot if you get any message upon trying to enter the gym? Ignore any NPC nearby, simply try to enter the building.

i ignored the guy in front of the gym. I could enter the gym and did the 8th leader.

But its confusing that the guy is talking gym is closed.
