Olker
THE CHALLENGE "Anything works for story" I say this to newbies when they ask about if their pokémon work. Well, starting from that idea, I said to myself, "how can I make it so that I don't really get to choose exactly what will my team be?" And the answer was simple, SHINIES. I am going to complete the story with a team of six shiny pokémon in an alternate account! However, there are some simple rules: 1. All shiny pokemon must be OT. 2. I MUST use only shinies. Other pokémon are prohibited for story purposes, not even for HMs. 3. I CAN'T relog if I'm losing a battle. If I die, I die and lose money. 4. I can't battle any avoidable trainers before getting my shiny "starter". Therefore, I must use my normal starter to catch my first shiny. Once is caught, I can't use it again for story purposes. 5. I am allowed to sell/do non-essencial quests (like officer Jenny's quests) other pokémon to earn some money, but as I said before, NOT to use them for story purposes. THE STORY Kanto Starting with squirtle, I fight Jackson's Eevee (it's unavoidable) and continue straight into Viridian City. There, I plan to go west to route 22 to capture my shiny starter. However my squirtle is too slow, so I level it up to reach 15 so it's easier to escape from wild mons. It WASN'T enough. It still couldn't escape all battles, and sometimes it died because I got distracted and didn't realize it was low (yes, I, of course, do other things while I hunt for my first shiny, otherwise it would be really, really tedious). To avoid wasting too much money, I did something simple. I spent everything in pokéballs and potions. My money was safely invested, but from this point on just a long hunt was waiting for me. My Shiny Starter At the moment of writing this (56 hours in game), I still haven't caught my shiny starter, however, I did look at my options. As I said, I was going to hunt in route 22 for it, therefore, the options are the following: Day and Night Rattata: Although on paper seems horrible, if I overlevel it to Raticate, it may take some hits and flinch Brock's mons with a neutral bite. Not very appealing though. Day Doduo: Although it is strong later in the game, and learns a powerful 60 base stab attack (pluck) at level 19, it won't be of much help against the first gym. Nidoran M & F: Apart from learning double kick in level 9, which will be useful in first gym, they also learn plenty of hms. One of these would probably be the best starter for overall story that I could get. Ponyta: Although I like the idea of a shiny Ponyta in my team, it would be one of the worst options against the first gym. Spearow: Although it looks weak, if I overlevel it to evolve at level 20, it might learn drill run, which is in his learnset. If it learns it when evolving, it might hit brock's rock types pretty hard. Night Hoothoot: Not really that relevant. Hypnosis might prove to be useful though. Poliwag: If I get this, it would be a DREAM. However, it's not very likely, condidering it's rarer than hoothoot and rattata, and these three are the only ones that spawn during night. Of course, this challenge will take a long time, so I'll update this thread everytime something important happens, it'll be like a "diary". :] If you have any recommendations, comments, opinions, or WHATEVER, comment below. :] Edited June 22, 2021 by Olker Link to comment https://pokemonrevolution.net/forum/topic/178687-challenge-story-with-ot-shiny-team/ Share on other sites
