Repel effect gone when fighting trainers

I just used repel in victory road then the trainer cooldown battle started and I was forced to fight. After battling, I encountered a wild pokemon. I used super repel at Victory road 1f entrance and just after fighting that kid, I instantly encountered wild pokemon. I doubt I have made 200 steps at that point.

Trainer battles don't affect repel.

 

Make sure whenever you use a repel that your lead Pokemon is a higher level than the wild Pokemon.
