Surely Bronzong can worK! But be careful, because almost every pokemon in the E4 has sucker punch! And sucker punch will sooner or later destroy bronzong!

Well i think adding bronzong in your team will be a risk. Lance's have earthquake in almost every pokemon, and will appearently one shot your bronzong, since ground is super effective agaisnt steel. Second thing is bronzong has slow speed, and for these reason, i dont recommend bronzong at all.

yeah thats something that may need to be worked with in the future. NPCs will target towards type advantages but will not take into account abilities. Gengar is the biggest example due to so many strong NPCs have EarthQuake.

Oh wow I wish I knew this. Haha, I even had a Gengar in my team but I just relied on switching and reviving with this team:

 

95 Salamence

95 Gengar

93 Kingdra

95 Staraptor

2 low level Sturdy Magnemites with Thunder Wave (super useful for paralyzing the super fast Mega Alakazam/Mega Salamence)

 

I didn't even use Gengar for Lance, haha, since Staraptor/Salamence had Intimidate it made them take hits better.

So what level a Gyarados and a Genagar should be to beat e4 with just them? And should I buy a lot of items?

Gya is the best poke for Johto E4. All you need is just max buff dragon dance (x6) then enjoy the killing stuff.
