I was able to copy early bird and magic bounce but not sync. It's not listed in latest update thread.

Following abilities can no longer be copied with Role Play: 

Battle Bond, Comatose, Disguise, Flower Gift, Forecast, Gulp Missile, Ice Face, Illusion, Imposter, Multitype, Neutralizing Gas, Power Construct, Power of Alchemy, Receiver, RKS System, Schooling, Shields Down, Stance Change, Trace, Wonder Guard and Zen Mode.

Thank you for taking time reporting the issue to us. 

"Role Play fails if the target has the same Ability as the user" (quoted Bulbapedia). In this case, your Alakazam and the wild Natu share the same ability (Synchronize). That explains the fail of Role Play. Hope this clears up your doubt.
