Going with your description, there is more than one possibility of the issue could be. Maybe you have inadvertently kept previous versions of the PRO Client and with the release of the last one, files were downloaded in that same location and potentially they got mixed up within new and older PRO version, thus causing some crashes. In that case and as a general first potential solution, I would highly recommend you to completely delete every PRO file you have in your computer and redownload your appropriate version again here. When you'll have downloaded the game, before logging in, set your settings if you need to. 
 

If after making sure all PRO files are deleted from your computer and redownloading the game you still experience the same issue, I believe maybe the issue could be that your computer was using alot of ressources to run the game and maybe other apps opened at the same time. PRO doesn't take alot to run but it still uses ressources from your computer. If the game really crashed, your desktop was black and I assume you had to reboot the computer, it leads me to believe maybe the computer was handling a bit too much that it could at the time your issue happened. As a solution to this should it turn out to be the problem, I would recommend making sure all non-necessary apps are closed before running PRO so that more ressources are available for it to use.
