From my limited exploration of the forums, they hold megas in the same basket as Legendaries:

 

Maybe someday, but not now and we don't know if it will be at all.

My advice is to take a wait and see approach toward this.

 

There isn't any new news to report as to when megas will be available. Would megas be a great addition to the game? Of course. However, they are not a top priority.
