I know that several years ago you needed like 150-400 hours to challenge most bosses. 

 

I just tested out brock on hardmode and found out that I could indeed battle him despite only having 18ish hours on this account.

 

Were the hour requirements removed?

Only some bosses required more hours other required to complete that region were you are batting boss like if you want to battle Professor Oak in kanto then you have to complete kanto region

Hello there @Gumasjustbetter As you have discovered, many of the play hour requirements for many bosses and quests have been reduced or removed entirely in recent years. The link that @Stevan01 kindly provided shows a list of all bosses, each with their own page listing lots of useful information, including any requirements to challenging them.
