I'm curious as to if there's a requirement to use the mail system like there is to trade now.

A mailing system is a planned upcoming feature that will be released next update I guess. A plan is to have it to work offline and online. So you pretty much will be able to send a mail, items etc to someone who might not be online. That is what I've gathered. Don't take me 100% serious. You can also expect more major updates coming soon.

As long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be.
