For some (unknown) reason i've been unable to use dig outside of battle.

Have the requirements recently changed?

I have the 1st 8 gym badges.

 

Previously i was able to use dig to "skip" caves after entering from the completed side atleast once. I was also able to use digspots to find items.

I can no longer do so. It brings up a menu telling me i need to do more for it to be able to be commanded.

 

Any help?

Make sure the poke using Dig has 150+ happiness. Check it by typing /happy 1-6, dependent on its position in your party.

that message appear when ur poke is lesser than 150 happines , keep in mind for digs/heabutt trees there a requirment and that ur pokemon need to have at least 150 happiness to be able to dig/headbutt , hope it help u.
