every time i attempt to log in, the client reads; "connecting to server".

freezes a moment, then reads; "can not connect to server"

 

highly doubt it has anything to do with maintenance or whether or not the server is having issues, more so curious as to if it has anything to do with my client itself, b.c where it freezes, the window stops responding momentarily.

This happens alot to me but after 5mins of trying usually means server is down. When server goes down you will get that message and sometimes when it's full or you just can't connect you'll still read that message. This is why were still waiting for a server status implementation.

yeh atm its down aswell. it shuts down for maintenence and crashes some times. i highly doubtitsur client. if u think so u shud head to the online live chat and ask others if there serveris also down so u know if it is just ur client

i didn't want to waste my time reinstalling the client for nothing like "PkmnMaster318" master did lol
