Chances of encountering certain wild Pokemon - always equally probable?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a Lapras in union cave B2F, and as I am quite picky about the ability it has and its IV's, I sortof want to find the "perfect" one. However, to me it seems that the more Lapras I catch there, the less appear. They are very rare anyway, so I could be wrong, but for example 2 nights ago I caught about 5 in 2 hours and now it takes several hours for me to find just one. Is this coincidence - or something in the game that the more of one Pokemon you catch, the fewer of them appear? I would think there is just a certain chance that this Pokemon appears and it remains constant but I am really getting the impression this cannot be the case anymore.

Does anybody on here have a real insight into how encounters with wild Pokemon are generated and could tell whether I'm just being paranoid or if chances of encounter really are not constant (apart from some Pokemon only appearing at night etc.)?

Thanks so much in advance!

U can caught 5 in 2 hours, thats because u r lucky, normally for extremely rare pokemon, the encounter rate is extremely rare as mention. Extremely rare pokemon is hard to encounter and for normal people is like 1 per 2/3 hours.

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, specific Pokemon will always be under a specific rarity tier. (see: https://pokemonrevolution.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=4287)

However, since areas have different number of spawns, there could be different spawn rates across the same species. For example, you're more likely to encounter an Extremely Rare when there are only two kinds of spawns in the area as opposed to three or four kinds. Again, I could be wrong. It would be awesome if someone could clear this up.

That thread is a bit out-of-date. Here's the most recently published rarity tier spawn information. As you can see from that post, many of the Pokemon have various rarity tiers listed, implying that spawn rate differs depending on map (e.g. #304 Aron is listed as Extremely Rare, Sparse, and Rare).

That's awesome, thanks!
