Stuck in Viridian

Hi guys,

I just completed the tasks of snitching on Jackson and observing his mom's confrontation of him. After this i ventured up into the cave and found the pokemon and new move. I love the game thus far but i don't have any sense on where to go next. I wish there was quest sytem that let me know what task needed to be completed. I asked in the help chat and i think a guy named Pixius (?) said i needed to travel west of the pokemon school to the city below lake of rage. I tried that and i made it to the area directly west of Viridian City, but there are two guards blocking the door way to the next area. They say I need a badge.

The gym leader in Viridian is no where to be found, can someone help me out?

Hi there, you need to go up from Viridian city to go Route 3. The gym of Viridian city is gym 8th, so you cannot beat at the moment.

About the guard block, they will go away after you have 8 badges.

Hi, you probably meant me! Just to clarify, the city below Lake of Rage is actually in the Johto region, which is a long ways off from where you are in the story currently - you likely read an answer that was intended for another user. :P

As Windy already said, you'll need to go up from Viridian to the next route/city (so north, not west). And just in case you get confused during the story again, here's a walkthrough of what you'll need to do to progress through the Kanto/Johto regions. Good luck!
