1. Go to Leev town and find scientist Smith he will ask you to find aerodactyl(mega) to get some info.

2. Mega aerodactyl is at jura cave,find him and win against him and after you win against him, he will turn to old amber

3. after you get the old amber go back to Scientist Smith and he will give you the old amber

4. and go to cinabar to revive old amber fossil

 

You can also get an old amber by digging(Dig needs 151 happiness, to check happiness type /Happy 1-6) in mt. Moon, and when you get an old amber proceed to step 4. Credits to LeoChaos for telling me this. :)

I've never managed to dig one up, or another done fossil, just a few helix ones, they're really rare lol.

My only Aerodactyl is from Leev town quest and I've dug a lot XD

So still useful to people

i got lucky and dug it really easy, a week later i realised it's a fossil and revive it :Dd
