Ok, the suggestion is simple.

You should put a message when some kind of moves failed.

Some moves has a message.

Ex: when I use Hyper Voice on a Voltorb or Whismur with Soundproof ability, the game said that Hyper Voice failed because of Soundproof.

 

But that doesn't happen all the time.

 

Ex: when you find a Gulpin holding an Item and with Sticky Hold ability, you will not get any message that the move thief doesn't work. You just see you don't have the item and you get confused.

 

So I think put a message for all these case should be a good idea.

yep, failing messages do need to be more precise... I remember my little brother trying dig on a pidgey and come to me after "dig has no 100% accuracy, it failed twice last time against a pidgey !"
