I recently started playing the game, and I'd like to know what happens when I beat the Elite Four in Kanto. Do I move on to Johto and keep my same Pokemon? Do I reset in the next region, losing all of my Pokemon?

After beating the Elite 4, you have to manually go to Johto and then it's basically like starting over. So yes, you lose all of your pokemon, and you have to choose a new starter. However, when you have a certain amount of badges in Johto you can go back to Kanto and you can get all of your pokes back. Also, you keep your items.

After you beat E4 Kanto, you can continous in Kanto, or go to Johto via the way you go in victory road (now go down to route 26 for Johto way). Make sure you removed all item from pokemon, because your pokemon will be block in PC box. And only unlock after you have 8 badge Johto. You can keep all item in bag and money.
