So apparently you need surf to ride your water mount? im not sure of this also my pickaxe does not work on any rock any way i can sell it back to the shop? please help as soon as you can.

Hello there. If you want to surf on the water, Surf HM will be enough. That means you don't need surf pokemon. The same thing isn't true for the axe. So no need to Rocksmash TM. You can't sell back your stuff to the coin shop but you can sell on Trade channel for money.. You can set the price for yourself. Follow the trade channel.

I will not said that it smart or not as pickaxe only convenience item, which will saves slot for your pokemon team (not need pokemon slave) and also has benefit in Excavation sites in Hoen after. However, as your process in Kanto and beginner, so it not impact much to yours.

 

P/s: You only can use pickaxe after got TM Rocksmash at the first time.

Larap mount only can use after you got HM surf at safari zone 3 in Kanto.
